Dates & Events: Teachers' Day – September 5, 2019
Birth Anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Statesman, Philosopher, and Teacher

Radhakrishnan

Teachers' day is celebrated across India on 5th September, every year, which is the birthday of former President, teacher, educator and scholar Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Radhakrishnan was a man of many good qualities and was known to be a wonderful, interactive and helpful teacher among students. It was his thought that his birthday should be celebrated as a day to pay respect to all the teachers and all that they do for the society if at all someone wishes to celebrate his birthday.
A philosopher, Dr. S Radhakrishnan served as the first Vice President of India (1952-1962) and the second President of India (1962-1967). He is remembered as India’s most renowned and influential scholar of comparative religion and philosophy and for introducing Indian philosophy to the West, bridging the gap between both the cultures. He is well known for his commentaries on the Bhagavadgita, Vedanta, Upanishads and Brahma Sutra.
Dr. Radhakrishnan served at many educational institutions like Mysore University, University of Calcutta, Andhra Pradesh University, Banaras Hindu University in various capacities. He also taught eastern religion and ethics at Oxford University. Dr. Radhakrishnan was honoured with the Bharat Ratna (the highest civilian award in India) in 1954.
Teaching is one of the noblest among all the professions and teachers are the foundation and the architects of the society and shape the future path of progression. Teachers shape the mind of an individual, imparts good values and turns them into good citizens. On this day, let’s pay our respects and gratitude to all teachers who have taught us, helped us, guided us to become what we are today!
